Summary of our LARQ PureVis 2 review ⭐4.5/5
When you look for a LARQ PureVis 2 review, what you really want to know is whether a bottle costing over €100 genuinely offers more than a standard €30 filter bottle. Our answer is yes, for one specific reason: most filter bottles filter the water, but none of them deal with what happens inside the bottle between two washes. Yet that is exactly where bacteria grow and unpleasant smells appear.
The PureVis 2 solves this problem with a UV-C LED housed in the cap. It switches on automatically every 2 hours to sanitise the water and the inner walls, and you can start a cycle on demand with a single press. The plant-based filter, meanwhile, takes care of the chemical pollutants that UV light does not treat. The two technologies complement each other rather than overlapping.
We knocked off half a point for the purchase price and for the cost of the filters, which need replacing roughly every 2 months. Even so, for anyone who drinks tap water away from home every day (at the office, the gym or while travelling), it is one of the best health investments you can make right now. It also features in our comparison of the best filter bottles.

UV-C + filter: how the LARQ PureVis 2 works
The PureVis 2 is made up of three parts: an insulated stainless steel bottle, a “smart” cap that houses all the electronics, and a removable filter straw that sits in the water. Each part has a clearly defined role.
The PureVis cap: UV-C light that disinfects
Under the cap sit mercury-free UV-C LEDs. Unlike traditional UV lamps, which contain mercury, this technology is safer and longer-lasting. UV-C light destroys the DNA of micro-organisms and stops them from reproducing.
🏆 Best filter bottle: our comparison
All options compared to help you choose.
- Normal mode (1 press): a one-minute cycle that eliminates 99.99 % of E. coli and 99.999 % of Salmonella.
- Adventure mode (2 presses): a three-minute cycle for situations where you trust the water less.
- Protozoa: LARQ claims 99.99 % of Cryptosporidium and Giardia lamblia are eliminated over a 6-minute cycle.
- Self-cleaning: a cycle starts on its own every 2 hours to keep the water and bottle clean and odour-free.

The plant-based filter: what UV light does not treat
UV-C light is highly effective against bacteria and viruses, but it does not remove chlorine, PFAS or medication residues. That is the job of the Nano Zero filter, attached to the end of the straw. Made from plant fibres, it is independently tested to NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 standards.
| Contaminant | Treated by | Claimed result |
|---|---|---|
| Bacteria (E. coli, Salmonella) | UV-C | 99.99 % to 99.999 % |
| Viruses (T1UV bacteriophage) | UV-C | Tested by an independent laboratory |
| Cryptosporidium, Giardia | UV-C (long cycle) | 99.99 % |
| Chlorine, taste, odour | Filter | NSF/ANSI 42 |
| PFAS (PFOA/PFOS) | Filter | NSF/ANSI 53 |
| Pharmaceutical residues | Filter | Yes, according to LARQ |
The filter is removable. If your tap water already tastes good, you can drink without the straw and rely solely on UV-C disinfection. Conversely, the filter alone does not disinfect: it is the combination of the two that makes the PureVis 2 worthwhile. Essential or Advanced: which filter should you choose?
🏆 Best filter bottle: our comparison
All options compared to help you choose.
The bottle comes with the Essential filter. LARQ also offers a more thorough Advanced filter. Both last around 2 months, or roughly 94 litres of filtered water, the equivalent of 189 single-use bottles according to the brand.
| Criterion | Essential Filter | Advanced Filter |
|---|---|---|
| Chlorine, taste, odour | ✓ | ✓ |
| PFOA/PFOS | ✓ | ✓ |
| Pharmaceutical residues and other contaminants | — | ✓ |
| Ease of sipping | Very smooth | Slight resistance (“like drinking a smoothie”) |
| Price of a 3-pack (subscription) | €31.95 | €45 |
Our advice: start with the Essential filter supplied. It is more than enough for treated mains water, whose main flaw is the taste of chlorine. Switch to the Advanced filter if you live in an area affected by PFAS or if you want an extra safety margin against micropollutants.

App, battery life and everyday use
A built-in hydration coach
Internal sensors measure the water level every time you put the bottle down. The data is sent via Bluetooth Low Energy to the LARQ app, which displays your intake, lets you set a daily goal and makes the cap glow when it is time to drink. A “Do Not Disturb” mode turns off reminders during quiet hours.
You might dismiss this feature as a gimmick, but it is genuinely useful if you tend to forget to drink while working. And if the app does not interest you, the bottle works perfectly well without it.
Battery life and comfort
A full charge via the included USB-C cable lasts 2 to 3 weeks with normal use. The BPA-free, food-grade 18/8 stainless steel double wall keeps water cold for up to 24 hours. The removable soft-touch handle makes it easy to carry, and you can drink through the straw or straight from the spout.
Good to know: before first use, you need to plug the bottle in to “unlock” it, then rinse the filter under the tap for 30 seconds before fitting it.
LARQ PureVis 2 maintenance
UV-C self-cleaning greatly reduces the chore, but a few good habits are still needed:
- Hand-wash the bottle roughly every two weeks with soapy water.
- Never submerge the cap: it contains the electronics. Wipe it with a damp cloth.
- Leave the bottle open to dry after each wash.
- Remove the filter if you are not using the bottle for several weeks.
- Replace the filter roughly every 2 months, or as soon as the flow or taste deteriorates.
LARQ PureVis 2 price and real cost
Let’s be clear: the PureVis 2 is expensive for a water bottle. But it combines three products in one (a premium insulated bottle, a UV-C purifier and a certified filter), and that is the yardstick it should be compared against.
| Cost item | Observed price | Clean My Water’s take |
|---|---|---|
| PureVis 2 — 680 ml | €125 | The most versatile size, ideal for everyday use. |
| PureVis 2 — 1 L | €135 | For sport and long days with no water point. |
| Essential filters (3 × 2 months) | €31.95 | Around €64 a year on subscription, or €1.20 a week. |
| Advanced filters (3 × 2 months) | €45 | Around €90 a year if you want maximum filtration. |
If you buy a small bottle of water for around €1 every working day at the office or the gym, you spend about €230 a year. With the PureVis 2 and Essential filters, the first year comes to around €190, then around €64 in the following years. On top of that, you avoid the microplastics found in bottled water, a topic we cover in detail in reasons to stop drinking bottled water. This calculation is an estimate that depends on your consumption.

Who is the LARQ PureVis 2 for? Pros and limitations
The PureVis 2 is not the right bottle for everyone. Here is our take depending on your profile:
| Profile | Our opinion |
|---|---|
| Busy city dweller, office, gym | Ideal: tap water without the chlorine taste, a bottle that is always clean, hydration reminders. |
| Traveller (hotels, Airbnb, European countries) | Highly relevant: Adventure mode offers peace of mind when water quality is unknown. |
| Fully self-sufficient hiker | Needs backup: the PureVis 2 does not remove sediment from cloudy river water. Choose a bottle with a mechanical pre-filter instead. |
| Tight budget | Not a priority: a standard €30–40 filter bottle will do most of the work on taste. |

⚠️ Watch out for
- High purchase price (€125 to €135)

Customer reviews: what users say
User feedback converges on three points. First, taste: tap water loses its chlorine smell, which makes you want to drink more. Second, peace of mind: no more scrubbing the bottle every evening or worrying about a stale smell. Finally, the design, which is often mentioned, with materials that give a real impression of quality.
Unsurprisingly, the most common complaint is the price. Some users also note that the Advanced filter requires a little extra suction at first.
“Drinking through the straw and filter is easy, and the tracking has helped me drink more water throughout the day. 10/10!” — customer review published on livelarq.com

Our verdict: should you buy the LARQ PureVis 2?
Yes, if you are looking for the most complete filter bottle on the market and you refill your bottle from the tap several times a day. The combination of UV-C and a plant-based filter tackles both chemical pollutants and bottle hygiene, which standard bottles completely ignore.
If your budget is tight or you are heading off on a trek far from civilisation, a mechanical filter bottle will be a better fit. Find all the alternatives in our filter bottle comparison.
